Windows 7 black screen: How to fix when you're desktop does not load

Just a while ago my server had just encountered what most windows 7, windows vista, NT, W2K, W2K3 or W2K8 users that been figuring out for a very long time – the black screen of death.

Speculation arises that this problem might have caused by a faulty memory module, windows update, malware or virus infected operating system. There were no definite conclusion for what causes the problem but most user had the same battle against the windows black screen – how to fix it.

In my scenario, it might have been a kind of virus that triggers windows black screen. I can’t be certain what kind of virus that causes my computer to blackout, no desktop, no taskbar and no sidebars. It is completely gone, however I could still be able to open up task manager by pressing CTL-ALT-DEL but accessing drives does not work.



I tried to go safe mode but the same thing happen, windows is totally blackout or nothing to see when it supposedly loads up my desktop item.

So how did I fix it?

I was able to fix it using the RESTORE tool on windows 7 operating system.

Other way around that I found in the internet that most users had found it helpful is by following the procedure below.

1) Restart your PC
2) Logon and wait for the black screen to appear
3) Make sure your PC should be able to connect to the internet (black screen does not appear to affect this)
4) Press the CTRL, ALT and DEL keys simultaneously
5) When you're prompted, Click Start Task Manager
6) In Task Manager Click on the Application Tab
7) Next Click New Task
8) Now enter the command:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?GRAB=BLACKSCREENFIX"
Note this command assumes that you are using internet explorer as your browser, if not substitute your browser path and file details for those of iexplore.exe or use the Browser option of Task manager to locate it.
9) Click OK and your browser should start up and begin the download process
10) When prompted for the download Click run, the black screen fix program will download and run to automatically fix the issue.
11) Now restart your PC and the black screen problem will hopefully be gone.

Fixing Samsung Syncmaster 540n LCD Monitor

Two of my Samsung syncmaster 540n LCD monitor has been acting really stranged lately, both has intermittent blackout screen in almost after every 3 - 5 seconds. I had to turn it on back but go off again every now and then. In addition, the other one has already had a problem just before the intermittent blackout screen, the LCD backlight is not working, so no matter how I tap the brightness and contrast to maximum adjustment, it wouldn't help. It would barely see the display in the screen.

So yesterday, I open and exposed the video board of my samsung syncmaster 540n LCD and found out there are 2 busted capacitors that I assumed that might have caused the blackout screen and the non working backlight. I removed the 2 busted capacitors - 825uf 25v and 330uf 25v then replaced with 1000uf 25v and 330uf 25v respectively. After replacing the 2 busted capacitors, my LCD monitor have successfully worked now.

Below are the images that I have taken from my Samsung 540n LCD monitor after I managed to open and exposed the boards. The 2 capacitors appeared to be bulky perhaps because of the heat temperature or lifespan of the parts.

How to open Samsung 540n LCD monitor is not difficult as it seems, all you have to do is remove the screws of the stand which is attached at the back, then use your flat screw driver to slowly snap it out.

How to Remove Mabuhay ang Pilipinas Virus?

Today I encountered this sort of virus from one of my clients notebook. The virus says, Mabuhay ang Pilipinas in the title window then the rest of the messages says "Mabuhay din si Gloria, Si FG, si Abalos, si Chavit, si Jok-Jok, si Gonzales, at si Jose Pidal!"- You have to click OK button before you'll be able to continue to load on your windows desktop.  

There have been some post in some blogs of how to remove this annoying virus but unfortunately none of them works after I followed all the instructions. I have used and tried a couple of anti spywares, anti malware and anti virus program but none of them able to fix the problem. Here's the list of anti virus and malware I've tried: Avast Pro, Malwarebytes, Norman Cleaner, and Nod32. I've also found out that the popular NoobKiller program won't also work on this type of virus. It seems that this new virus is one pain in the head. The creator of the virus is so clever that its undetectable.

This type of virus, are transferable through flash drives or usb sticks. Its hard to get off and it consumes a lot of my time when trying to find solution but unfortunately, there's little information about this and for that it may have to take more time before someone figures it out.

As of now, there's no definite solution that you can find in the internet but if you wish to be inform for the latest updates of this virus, you may follow this blog and receive updates through email.

Sony VGN-CS13M Laptop: How to open and clean processor fan

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to open Sony VGN-CS13M laptop. The problem was: it suddenly shuts off about 2-5  minutes after it starts up. I went through BIOS settings to check some settings, I'm surprised when all of the sudden, it shuts off again. That's the time that I realize that there must be something wrong relating to the power, and so I've the check the supply but it seems to be normal. Now the second thing that I had in mind is the temperature of the cpu. Based on my experience on desktop troubleshooting, any overheated processor will result to system crash and shutdown (as if you're pushing the button off).

I tried to check Sony VGN-CS13M BIOS settings but doesn't show the temperature or even the fan speed of the cpu. But later on, I realized that the fan that blows away the heat from the processor seems to be not working. I wasn't able to feel any air coming out from exhaust panel. The laptop is never been open before, I was quite hesitant because this might be still under warranty. But upon knowing from the owner that she bought it about 1 year ago from Dubai, and there's no more warranty. We later call Sony centers in Cebu, to check some info if they could be able to fix it, they said YES but it had to be shipped to Manila and will take a few weeks for repair. All in all it would cost a whopping 4000 Pesos - definitely expensive. Also if they can't fix it, you'll be charge a mind bugling 2,000 Pesos - I think that covers the shipping charges and services.

The owner had set her mind to have it open and hopefully fix it. And so I slowly started to remove all the screws at the back of the SONY VGN-CS13M. There are about 23 screws that I have unscrewed including the screws beneath the CD-ROM and the Battery. After a few minutes I was able to remove the back case. There are about 4 screws that I've remove from the processor. I found out the fan has been stocked because of the dirt, it won't work freely and though sometimes it moves but it stops again.

I have to remove the exhaust fan and it ain't that easy since any thing inside the laptop has delicate and small computer parts that might be damage during the process. So for you guys attempting to open any laptop, be sure to be gentle and discharge your body from static electricity before touching those tiny winy parts.

Below are steps on how to open your Sony VGN-CS13M Laptop:

1. Remove all the screws from the back of the laptop.

2. Remove the Battery, Hardisk and the CD-ROM.

3. Remove the screws beneath the Battery, Hard Disk and the CD-ROM.

4. Slowly remove the case to avoid damage.

Caution: Carefully remove the screws on the heatsink and also please do keep in mind that once you've remove the heasink, you may have to reapply a new thermal paste before placing it back again.
